Dr. Gang Bao is the Foyt Family ChairProfessor in the Department of Bioengineering, Rice University. He is a CPRITSenior Scholar and the Director of Nanomedicine Center for NucleoproteinMachines at Rice. Dr. Bao received his undergraduate and Master’s degrees fromShandong University in China, and his PhD from Lehigh University in the US. Dr.Bao is a Fellow of the American Association of Advancement in Science (AAAS), aFellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), a Fellow of theAmerican Physical Society (APS), and a Fellow of the American Institute forMedical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE).Dr.Bao’s current research is focused on the development of nanotechnology and biomolecularengineering tools for biological and disease studies, including molecularbeacons, magnetic nanoparticle probes, quantum dot bioconjugates, proteintagging/targeting methods, and engineered nucleases such as CRISPR/Cas9. Theseapproaches have been applied to the diagnosis and treatment of cancer andcardiovascular disease, and the development of genome editing approaches fortreating single-gene disorders.
